A Prophet (R)
A Prophet got notice last year at both Cannes and the Oscars, and at least one reason was the talented, sexy young stud at the heart of the story. Tahar Rahim plays Malik, a young Arab man imprisoned French jail where life for him is rough. Illiterate, alone and naive to the complex social workings of the prison’s society, he soon becomes a target for every thug who’s bigger than he is (which is just about everyone), and finds himself caught between culture wars that followed the inmates from their lives outside. But when Malik is recruited by the jail’s mafia boss he soon works his ways up the ranks, learning not only the ways of the jail, but the ways of the world.
