After Sesame Street producers yanked a segment featuring pop singer Katy Perry on the grounds it was too salacious for the children's staple, the singer Tweeted her response Thursday to the ensuing fiasco.

"Wow, looks like my play date with Elmo has been cut short!" Perry, 25, Tweeted. "If you still wanna play see it at www.katyperry.com Tag you're it, Elmo!"

The furor began earlier this week, when the show uploaded a promo video for her appearance that caused many to complain or comment on her attire -- a low-cut, heart-shaped dress. She wore it alongside the character Elmo as she sang a special version of her song, Hot N Cold.

The show's producers issued a detailed statement about their decision.

"Sesame Street has a long history of working with celebrities across all genres, including athletes, actors, musicians and artists," the producers said. "Sesame Street has always been written on two levels, for the child and adult. We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver.
