Career criminal Harold Smith — who police believe gunned down Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen in an apparent botched robbery — had a history of car burglaries, Breaking Celebrity News has exclusively learned.

Smith, the bike riding ex con who committed suicide as cops prepared to storm his low-rent Hollywood apartment, was charged with second degree burglary of Mercedes Benz on December 26, 1992.

Chasen was shot driving her Mercedes-Benz near the intersection of Whittier Drive and Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills, following an after-party for the film Burlesque.

The never-before-released criminal complaint, obtained exclusively by Breaking Celebrity News, reveals Smith, aka Howard Jones, “willfully and unlawfully enter(ed) a motor vehicle, to wit, a 1974 Mercedes, the property of John Frances Moran, the doors of said motor vehicle being locked with the intent to commit larceny and any felony”.
