Controversial NFL star Michael Vick has signed an endorsement deal with Nike, Breaking Celebrity News has learned.

The 31-year-old quarterback made headlines in 2007 when he was linked to an illegal dog fighting ring that landed him a federal felony charge and nearly two years in prison, followed by two months of house arrest.

"We have re-signed Michael Vick as a Nike athlete," the company's spokesperson, Megan Saalfeld, told CNN.

"Michael acknowledges his past mistakes. We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field."

Vick made his NFL comeback in 2009 with the Philadelphia Eagles, but prior to his conviction he held a 10-year $130 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons and a $2 million Nike endorsement deal.

"I am thrilled to be on the Nike roster. The brand represents the most exciting athletes in sport," Vick said in a statement. "My focus now is on preparing for the football season and performing at the highest level for my team and fans."
