Elizabeth Smart’s Kidnapper Transferred To Federal Prison

Elizabeth Smart’s kidnapper has been transferred away from Salt Lake City and is on his way to the federal prison where he will serve a life sentence.
Brian David Mitchell was convicted of the 2002 kidnapping and rape of Elizabeth, then 14, after breaking into her home, forcing her at knife point to leave with him and sexually assaulting her almost daily during her nine month captivity.

He was sentenced to life in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Dale Kimball and he was transferred from the Salt Lake county jail and moved to an undisclosed federal prison on Wedneday.
A spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons told the Salt Lake Tribune that inmates are usually placed within 500 miles from their home.
Jim Thompson, a U.S. Marshal for the District of Utah told the paper that Mitchell was “well behaved and cooperative,” when he was moved.
Thompson said: “I would guess that he is filled with anxiety, like the other prisoners, about getting to his new detention facility and moving on with the next stage of their confinement.”
Going on to state that: “Nothing stood out as unusual or unique about his behavior.”
Mitchell has been visited weekly in jail by his former stepdaughter, Rebecca Woodridge, who said she wished him well and encouraged him to write to her from prison, telling the Salt Lake Tribune: “He knows he’s in for very difficult times ahead.”
