The college professor accused of watching [expletive] on a plane has resigned from his position.
Grant Smith, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, stepped down from his role as a materials science and engineering professor at the University of Utah last month, reported the Deseret News.
As Breaking Celebrity News previously reported, Smith was arrested last November after he was spotted watching child pornography while he sat in first class on a flight from Salt Lake City to Boston.
The married 47-year-old father-of-two has been on administrative leave since the disturbing incident and the university made it clear that he would be dismissed if the allegations were proved to be true.
Instead of risking being officially fired, Smith resigned before any disciplinary hearings could be held, said university spokesman Remi Barron.
"It was something he voluntarily did without any conditions," he explained.
