Barbara Walters has broken her silence about her pending retirement. Kind of.

"There were many reports last week saying that I was retiring from ABC, and there was an assumption that I would be making an announcement today,” the legendary journalist said on The View Monday. "However, here I am, and I have no announcements to make.

"I do want to say this," the 83-year-old Walters continued. "If and when I might have an announcement to make, I would do it on this program, I promise, and the paparazzi guys, you will be the last to know.”

Rumors ran rampant last week Walters would be stepping down from her post, and when CNN asked ABC officials to confirm the huge news, they answered with  a "no comment."

Walters' greatest accomplishments include creating and hosting The View, anchoring 20/20 for more than 20 years, and her annual 10 Most Fascinating People specials. She's interviewed every U.S. President and First Lady since Richard and Pat Nixon and was the first journalist to break the seven-figure mark, commanding a $1 million salary in 1976.
