The two girls behind Skylar Neese’s vicious murder were her best friends and for six long months they taunted her parents, their friends and lied to authorities about the fact that they were the reason she was dead, and that they killed her because they didn’t want to be friends with her anymore.
The straight-A high school student went missing on July 6, 2012 from her West Virginia home and her body wasn’t found until January 16, 2013 when Rachel Shoaf admitted that she and another unidentified girl stabbed her and covered up her body in a Pennsylvania town about 30 miles from her home.
Skylar’s father Dave Neese said the girls’ motive was cold blooded and cruel – “They said they didn’t want to be friends with her anymore,” the anguished dad told CNN.
The second teenage girl has not been identified because she has been charged with first-degree murder but not yet been charged as an adult.
According to Skylar’s dad, she the two girls “were inseparable” but she was closer to the unidentified girl. He said his daughter “had just gotten back from vacation with her a week before this. She had been best friends with her since she was 8 years old. I mean, it's sick."
That friend hid her involvement in the murder from Skylar’s parents, even going door to door with Mary Neese asking if anyone had seen her missing friend.
Newsball.com reported that Rachel Shoaf was admitted to a psychiatric hospital at the end of 2012 and that she was taunted relentlessly by friends and classmates who believed that she had something to do with Skyler’s murder. She eventually confessed to the authorities and told them where she and the other girl had killed Skylar and left her body.
