Katie Couric could be headed back to her former home, the TODAY show.

The vibrant TV personality and NBC have been communicating regarding a return as a fill-in while current co-host Savannah Guthrie takes maternity leave, sources told the NY Post.

An insider told the NY Daily News that “it makes perfect sense” to put the 57-year-old Couric, who left TODAY eight years ago to host the CBS Evening News, back in the chair that made her a media superstar.

“The viewers loved her and Matt Lauer together,” the insider said. “This would be a chance to give them exactly what they want.”

A separate source was more skeptical of the reunion, saying that “just because there are longstanding relationships, doesn’t mean that anything will come of this.”

Meredith Vieira’s name has also been bandied about as a possible substitute for Guthrie, both papers reported.
