Missing teen Jayme Closs' father was shot and killed in the doorway of the Wisconsin family's home, a neighbor told Breaking Celebrity News exclusively.

Joan Smrekar told Breaking Celebrity News she heard the tragic detail about James, 56, from police who have visited her home multiple times since the shocking murder and suspected kidnapping on Monday, October 15.

Around 12:30 that night, Smrekar said she and her husband heard loud gunshots.

"We didn't see anything at the time. We just heard shots," she told Breaking Celebrity News in an exclusive interview." There was one after the other, and I said to my husband, 'Are those gunshots?'

And he said, 'Yes, it's a big gun, too."

"We live in a rural area and we sometimes hear people shooting. I thought it was just a neighbor shooting a bear. We didn't know until the next morning, when the sheriffs came and said the neighbors have been shot."

"One thing I am aware of is that the shots were so loud because James was shot in the doorway."

Smrekar added that she didn't call police at the time because she "didn't think anything of it," but now feels 'terrible' for not alerting authorities.

As Breaking Celebrity News previously reported, cops believe 13-year-old Jayme was kidnapped after her parents James and Denise, 46, were murdered in cold blood in their own home.
