Ellie Kemper is being trashed online after a photo made the rounds showing her as queen of a ball that reportedly has klan ties.
The 41-year-old Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt actress is being accused of white supremacy after photos leaked showing her at the St. Louis’ Veiled Prophet Ball, an organization that is allegedly associated with celebrating white power.
Not only was she in attendance, but Kemper was crowed queen of the Veiled Prophet Ball in 1999.
The ceremony was originally created by white elites in 1878 to pay homage to the ritual of Mardi Gras.
According to The Atlantic, a secret board of group members selects one Veiled Prophet each year. The prophet then chooses one "Queen of Love and Beauty” who dances and receives gifts -- like pearls and tiaras -- from members during the ball.
The Veiled Prophet is reportedly required to dress in a klan-like robe and hood. They are also allegedly armed with a pistol and rifle.
A 1999 article of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch showed Kemper smiling big with the headline, "Freshman, 19, at Princeton U. is new Veiled Prophet queen.
The newspaper also shows a photo of Kemper dressed in all white with long gloves and smiling while chatting with two younger girls during the ball.
The actress also has a string of pearls around her neck.
