Former Minnesota Police Officers Facing Charges Over George Floyd’s Death Awarded $5,000 In Criminal Case

The three police officers awaiting trial after being charged for their role in George Floyd’s death were awarded money in their criminal case.
According to court documents obtained by Breaking Celebrity News, a Minnesota judge awarded $5,000 in attorney fees to the lawyer representing the former Minneapolis police officers Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao.
The defendants, who are represented by the same lawyer Deb Ellis, claimed they were owed the money per state law. Earlier in the case, the prosecutors had filed an appeal of a decision made by the judge.
They were fighting to amend the criminal complaints against the defendants to add a charge of aiding and abetting third-degree murder. The former police officers’ lawyer demanded the appeal be dismissed.
The court eventually sided with prosecutors allowing them to add the charge. However, the defendants were still able to request their legal fees be paid for fighting the appeal.
Ellis filed docs asking the court to pay her out $5,500 for the 54 hours she spent in “connection with the Appeal, including reviewing relevant materials, conducting legal research, preparing motions and briefs filed with the Court of Appeals, preparing for and presenting oral augment for the Court of Appeals, and other miscellaneous work related to the appeal.”
