An alien weapon has been found on Mars, according to a top UFO researcher.

Breaking Celebrity News can reveal an image taken by NASA's Curiosity rover shows a long, narrow formation protruding from rocky terrain, and a UFO specialist believes it could be evidence of a long-ago conflict on the Red Planet.

What's more, the researcher speculates the ancient war on Mars wiped out a once-thriving civilization – and space agencies have remained silent because of the weapon's potential military significance.

"This is an unexploded missile lying on the surface of Mars," claimed Scott C. Waring, who operates the website UFO Sightings Daily.

"This is undeniable proof that there was a huge war on Mars long ago that killed not only the enemy, but most living things on the surface of Mars."

He went on to speculate that the object's alleged implications for the military could explain why NASA has failed to mention it.

"It's no wonder NASA didn't say anything about it. It's a matter of U.S. national security and might be dangerous if some other nation gets hold of it," Waring claimed.

The formation, which is about eight feet in length, could also be the result of advanced extraterrestrial technology, he said.

"This alien tech is very revealing and is just what most governments want the most... new weapons. But... who will get to it first? And ... what kind of weapon is it?" he said on the website.

NASA's Curiosity rover has spent years exploring Mars' Gale Crater in search of clues about the Red Planet's ancient history.

Although Waring is convinced the object is evidence of alien technology, NASA has not identified it as anything beyond part of the natural Martian landscape.

Scientists said volcanic activity, meteorite impacts and wind erosion can create manufactured-looking rock formations on Mars.

The space agency has consistently maintained that it has found no evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars.

Scientists have long explained that Mars' surface has been shaped by billions of years of volcanic activity, meteorite impacts and wind erosion.

These processes can sculpt rocks into surprisingly geometric, manufactured-looking forms.

Meanwhile, social media users pooh-poohed the image as natural rock formations or "space junk."
