Pete Hegseth's third wife Jennifer's unprecedented influence at the Pentagon has been exposed.

Oct. 27 2026, Published 1:16 p.m. ET

Jennifer Hegseth is said to have grown into an extraordinarily powerful figure inside the Pentagon, and is now feared to be exerting "unprecedented influence" on sensitive meetings, staffing decisions and media strategy – despite holding no formal position in her husband's Defense Department leadership.

As Breaking Celebrity News has reported, the 49-year-old former Fox News producer has become a central adviser to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, 46, since his appointment under President Donald Trump, 80.

Pentagon Access Under Scrutiny

Jennifer Hegseth gained powerful influence inside the Pentagon.

Her involvement is said to have extended from interviewing prospective Pentagon employees to accompanying her husband to meetings with foreign officials, raising questions about the boundaries between family relationships and national security responsibilities.

A security source exclusively told Radar: "Jennifer isn't simply the defense secretary's wife anymore. She's become one of the most influential people around him, and there are people inside the Pentagon who are deeply uncomfortable with just how much access she has, as it really does mark an unprecedented influence over matters of national security from someone not qualified to do so or with the clearance to do so."

"What's extraordinary is that she doesn't need an official title to wield enormous influence. She's involved in conversations, personnel decisions and communications strategy in ways that would have been almost unthinkable for previous defense secretaries' spouses.

"There's a growing feeling that Jennifer has become the unofficial gatekeeper to Pete. She knows exactly how he thinks, who he trusts and what he wants. That gives her an extraordinary amount of power behind the scenes.

"The concerns aren't about a husband listening to his wife. They're about where that relationship ends and the responsibilities of running the most powerful military organization in the world begin.

"Some people were genuinely taken aback by her presence during discussions involving foreign defense officials. These are sensitive conversations, and there's an expectation that everyone in the room has a clearly defined reason for being there."

The insider added: "Jennifer comes from a television background, and that experience has clearly shaped the way she approaches the Pentagon. Image, messaging and controlling the narrative are all incredibly important to her."

"Pete clearly trusts Jennifer more than almost anyone else. That's not necessarily unusual in a marriage, but it becomes a very different proposition when you're talking about national security and the decisions being made at the highest levels of government."

"The Pentagon insists there's nothing inappropriate about her involvement, but the questions aren't going away. People want to understand exactly what her role is, how much influence she has and who is ultimately accountable for the decisions being made."

Former Official Raises Alarm

John Ullyot criticized Pete Hegseth's involvement of his wife in official duties.

One former Pentagon official, John Ullyot, also questioned the arrangement, telling The New York Times: "It's bonkers that a defense secretary would involve his wife in his sensitive official duties, including sharing details of an impending military operation, and face zero consequences."

Jennifer's influence reflects a partnership with Pete developed during their years at Fox News, where she worked as a producer while he established his television career.

According to interviews conducted by The Times with current and former administration officials, she has since helped prepare appearances, discussed communications strategy and participated in interviews with potential staff members.

Her presence at a sensitive meeting involving senior British defense officials reportedly caused particular concern.

The discussions are said to have followed Washington's temporary suspension of intelligence sharing with Ukraine, leaving British personnel potentially exposed to Russian missile attacks.

According to one administration official cited by the newspaper, British representatives initially avoided discussing sensitive operational details because Jennifer was present.

A subsequent meeting without her reportedly allowed more extensive discussions.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell insisted Jennifer attended only the introductions and left shortly afterward.

He maintained she had never participated in discussions involving classified information.

Signal Chat Controversy

Senator Chris Coons called the situation 'not normal.'

Questions also emerged after Jennifer was said to have been included in a Signal group chat in which her husband shared details of planned American military strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.

Democratic Senator Chris Coons previously condemned the situation, telling MSNBC: "This is not normal."

Jennifer has also reportedly influenced the Pentagon's increasingly confrontational relationship with journalists.

Administration sources claim she supported restricting access for reporters whose coverage she considered hostile toward her husband.

The Defense Department subsequently introduced changes removing several established news organizations from their Pentagon workspaces.

However, officials have strongly defended her involvement.

Parnell described Jennifer as "an accomplished leader in her own right and a devoted military spouse" and said the department intended to expand her participation.

Jennifer Hegseth joined Trump to target housing, jobs, childcare, and education.

Earlier this month, Jennifer was appointed chair of the President's Military Spouse Commission – an unpaid role addressing problems facing military families.

She appeared alongside Trump at the White House announcement, highlighting concerns involving housing, employment, childcare and education.

Her increasingly visible public position contrasts with her earlier career behind the cameras.

After joining Fox News in 2006, she spent 18 years developing television programming before leaving the network following her husband's political appointment.

The couple married in 2019 and share a blended family of seven children.

Their relationship has also attracted scrutiny over Pete's previous marriages and allegations concerning his personal conduct, which he has disputed.

The Defense Department has not publicly confirmed whether she holds a security clearance, while officials maintain her involvement does not extend to classified discussions.
