'American Idol’ Producers Contemplate Canceling Show As Ratings Plummet
April 9 2018, Updated 2:20 p.m. ET
Sorry, Katy! As NBC's hit The Voice continues to delight fans, ABC's American Idol reboot is likely getting canceled after this season, Breaking Celebrity News has exclusively learned.
According to a network insider, “Ratings continue to drop. No one knows what to do, or who to point fingers at anymore.”
The source claimed judge Perry hasn't attracted viewers like execs expected.
“Katy seems to have hurt ratings rather than help them," the source said.
In addition to 33-year-old Perry tanking with fans, host Ryan Seacrest, 43, has also brought negative attention to the show. As Breaking Celebrity News previously reported, a former costume designer accused the media mogul of sexual harassment during their time working together. (Seacrest has denied any wrongdoing.)
“The Seacrest situation isn’t helping the situation, either."
“If Idol continues to do as bad as it’s been doing, producers will have no other choice than to pull the plug after this season.”
For an episode in late March, The Voice had 10.7 million viewers, while Idol trailed with 7.7 million, according to Deadline.
An American Idol insider denied the show is in danger of cancelation.
“This is absolutely not true," the source told Breaking Celebrity News.
