Mac Miller's Party Pals In The Clear: No Criminal Investigation Into Death, Cops Say

Sept. 13 2018, Updated 9:53 p.m. ET
Mac Miller's party pals can breathe easy: The Los Angeles Police Department does not have an active criminal investigation involving the hit rapper's apparent drug overdose, Breaking Celebrity News can exclusively report.
"This is strictly a Coroner's Office case at this time,” Sgt. Barry Montgomery, a spokesman for the LAPD, told Breaking Celebrity News exclusively. "As far as we are concerned, we are not investigating it as a criminal activity.”
The rapper, whose real name is Malcolm McCormick, was discovered dead of a suspected overdose in his Studio City, Calif. home on September 7. Breaking Celebrity News first reported that the troubled star hosted a noisy, raucous bash the night before his death.
Sarah Ardalani, a spokeswoman with the L.A. County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office, told Breaking Celebrity News she could not confirm reports that the 26-year old star was dead for hours before his body was found.
Ardalani said a full Coroner’s report could take weeks to complete. Coroner’s ruled Miller's cause of death as “deferred” until toxicology and other tests are completed.
The news of a lack of criminal investigation comes after Breaking Celebrity News exclusively reported that partiers at Miller's home were “coming in and out all night,” making noise and breaking bottles. A neighbor even spotted a group of people fleeing the house in the early morning hours of September 7.
"They seemed in a rush to go," the onlooker told Breaking Celebrity News.
The neighbor told Breaking Celebrity News police asked neighbors for any surveillance footage in an attempt to identify everyone at the home in Miller's final hours.
According to The Blast, an assistant discovered Miller's body last Friday after arriving to the home for work, and promptly called authorities.
In a 911 call obtained by Breaking Celebrity News, a man sobbed and asked first responders to “please hurry."

Miller split from girlfriend of two years Ariana Grande, 25, earlier this year amid his troubles with drug and alcohol abuse.
