Doctors Reportedly Tied To Scientology Charged In $80M Health Care Fraud Scheme

Two reportedly high-level scientologists are accused of running an $80 million health care fraud scheme for their chiropractic business, according to reports – and Breaking Celebrity News has uncovered exclusive details about their alleged shady behavior.
According to court documents obtained by Breaking Celebrity News, the U.S. government has accused Jeffrey and James Spina, chiropractors of Middletown, New York, and their employees, Andrea Grossman and Kimberly Spina, of operating a “widespread” scheme to defraud Medicare and other insurance providers.
According to reports, the Spinas are members of the church of Scientology – the same church Tom Cruise and John Travolta are members of.
In explosive court documents, the government accused the defendants of going to “great lengths” to commit fraud. They have each been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, health care fraud and obstruction of a federal audit.
The government alleged that Jeffrey and James Spina “drafted fake lease and marketing agreements” as well as “used phony and non-existent addresses” for their chiropractic businesses in an effort to conceal themselves as the owners.
The alleged scientologists are also accused of multiple fraudulent billing practices, including prescribing services to patients that were “not medically necessary,” court docs claimed.
The New York physicians also directed employees to lie to insurance providers about patients’ diagnoses, pain level and prior treatments. The doctors were even visited by two undercover officers whose medical records were faked by the clinic afterwards, according to court documents.
Jeffrey and James Spina are also accused of “double billing,” or billing two Insurance Providers for the same service, court documents claimed. The defendants are also accused of changing patient diagnosis codes and fabricating medical notes.
The charging documents accused the scientology doctors of having the “intent to deceive and defraud the United States.”
Their fraudulent practices total $80 million.
This is not the first time scientologists have ran into problems with authorities. As Breaking Celebrity News readers know, scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard exposed his own church members to the FBI, Breaking Celebrity News reported.
