Katie Holmes looked dazzling after the opening night of her Broadway play Dead Accounts, and Breaking Celebrity News has photos from her triumphant night, but most critics didn’t cheer about her performance.
In her first acting gig since her divorce from Tom Cruise, and her second Broadway appearance, Katie plays the frumpy sister of a scandalized Wall Street man who has returned home, played by two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz.
While the Los Angeles Times critic Charles McNulty praised Katie’s “charming, natural presence,” and The Wall Street Journal said the cast “glitters like sapphires on black velvet,” not everyone else was as kind.
New York Daily news critic Joe Dziemianowicz said the play was so “unfocused” that “unfortunately Holmes’ efforts added up to zilch.”
The NY Post’s Elizabeth Vincentelli said Katie has “one note – shrill, impatient – and yells it at top volume, making a vein bulge in her slender neck.”
