Rupert Murdoch revealed a quick moment of regret as the billionaire media mogul engaged in a bitter family feud over the future of his empire, Breaking Celebrity News can reveal.

The 95-year-old founder of News Corp and Fox went to war with three of his children, and newly released documents show just how dirty the fight got.

In late 2023, Rupert and his protégé son Lachlan, 54, tried to strip siblings James, 53, Prudence, 68, and Elisabeth, 58, of their right to share control of the multi-billion-dollar global empire. An irrevocable family trust set in place nearly 25 years ago would have divided control of the business equally between the four upon their dad's death.

But the trio fought back, and the two sides clashed in a Nevada courthouse over six days in September 2024 for control of the company.

Now, hundreds of exhibits, interviews, emails, text messages, and transcripts from that trial have been released, revealing Murdoch's reflections on the end of his life.

The Murdochs were already a splintered family. Unlike the ultra-conservative Rupert and Lachlan, James and his left-leaning sisters often disagreed with the two on issues like climate change and politics.

The court heard Rupert admit his family relationships were not as strong as he would like. He invited all of his children to his wedding in June 2024 to his fifth wife, Elena Zhukova. Only Lachlan came.

While the discussion of his death "irritated" him, Rupert said it made him confront reality.

"I guess it sort of made me – well, I had to face my mortality," Murdoch said at the time. "Made me, yes, realize that I'm 93; I'd better do something."

That "something" was convincing his kids that leaving Lachlan in charge of the Fox empire, effectively giving him all the power, was the only way forward.

However, Rupert's proposal, which he referred to as "Project Family Harmony," had the opposite effect, with Elisabeth vehemently telling her father: "You are completely disenfranchising me and my siblings. You've blown a hole in the family."

Yet Rupert still wanted to tear up the family's trust and give Lachlan sole control of Fox and News Corp after his passing. The businessman wanted to ensure Lachlan couldn't be outvoted by his liberal siblings, and could secure his final desires.

The billionaire had previously confessed: "These companies are my legacy. I have put everything into them over my life."

But older sister Pru took issue with their father appointing Lachlan the "designated leader," and warned her dad: "You already lost one son (James). And you could well lose two daughters over this."

After a lengthy behind-the-scenes bickering, the Murdoch family struck a deal giving Lachlan exactly what Rupert wanted: total control.

Rupert's other three children each received more than $1billion for their shares in the companies, but the three siblings are now prevented from ever buying back into the business.

After the deal was finalized, James, Elisabeth and Prudence said they were happy to have reached an agreement to settle the litigation over the Murdoch family trust.

"Prudence, Elisabeth and James are pleased that the matter is now behind them," said a spokesperson for James Murdoch in a statement.
